In the third grade, my friends and I pretended we had best friend pegasuses or pegasi (what is the plural of Pegasus, anyway?). We flew all around the kingdom (otherwise known as the playground), through the mist — I’m not sure why were always in the mist except I was obsessed with mist. It seemed romantic and didn’t you know that pegasi are always flying through the mist? I digress. The important thing wasn’t the mist, it was the adventures we had together.
When I first read Melissa Marr’s manuscript for Baby Dragon, Baby Dragon, it reminded me a little of those adventures way back in those mist covered imagination days of the 1980s. How magical to have a baby dragon or a pegasus for a best friend — to fly with them everywhere!
